Plantation Manager


Status: Permanent
Location: Witklip Plantation
Grade: D3
Reporting line: Regional Manager: Central

Role Mandate
To manage a small plantation including all activities within the plantation in accordance with the Company's policies, targets and objectives in order to maximize plantation profitability and sustainability.

Key Accountabilities
  • Manage and protect growing stock
  • Manage and maintain fixed and moveable assets
  • Manage and develop contractors
  • Maximise the efficiency of all plantation resources
  • Compile detailed annual plantation budget and control expenditure within the budgetary framework
  • Compile and implement annual operations plan
  • Manage planned and unplanned deviations to annual operations plan
  • Control monthly operating and detailed financial reports
  • Manage unplanned financial and operational risk
  • Manage and implement thinning and clear felling operations
  • Manage and implement establishment, weeding and pruning operations
  • Manage and implement fire protection and environmental conservation in accordance to FSC requirements
  • Manage, maintain roads and infrastructure
  • Develop new techniques to enhance business performance
  • Manage and control of pre-identified annual timber volumes
  • Manage optimised forest products and non-forest products
  • Identify plantation risk and implement risk mitigation strategies
  • Develop and implement security systems in accordance with company regulations
  • Manage and implement health and safety programmes and continuously support the implementation of community projects
  • Establish and maintain good community relationships
  • Establish and maintain good relationships with customers
  • Manage people within the company's policies and procedure

Minimum Requirements
  • Grade 12
  • 3 year National Diploma in Forestry (NQF Level 6)
  • B-Tech Degree in Forestry (NQF Level 7) will be an added advantage
  • 5 years' experience as a Senior Forester in silviculture/harvesting operations
  • Valid Driver's license
