Plantation Manager


Status: Permanent
Location: Brooklands Plantation
Grade: D4
Reporting line: Regional Manager: Central

Role Mandate
To manage a medium plantation (Brooklands) including all different activities within the plantation, according to company policies and objectives to maximize plantation profitability and sustainability.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage and protect growing stock
  • Manage and maintain fixed and moveable assets
  • Manage, develop, mentor and coach human resources and contractors
  • Maximise efficiently of all plantation resources
  • Manage and control of pre-identified annual timber volumes
  • Manage and control of budgeted production cost
  • Manage optimisation of forest products and non-forest products
  • Manage and implement thinning and clear felling operations according to company policies
  • Manage and implement establishment, weeding and pruning operations according to company policies
  • Manage and implement fire protection and environmental conservation policies in accordance to FSC requirements
  • Manage and maintain roads infrastructure according to company policies
  • Compile detailed annual plantation budget
  • Manage and control of annual expenditure within the budgetary framework
  • Compile and implement annual plan of operations
  • Controlling monthly operating and detailed financial reports
  • Identify plantation risk and implement risk mitigation strategies
  • Develop and implement security systems in accordance with company regulations
  • Minimize CARS and retention of FSC certification
  • Manage and implement health and safety programmes
    Maintain good community relationships and regularly have contact with customers and clients
  • Closely liaise with SED regarding community projects, participate and provide input to the Joint Community Forum
  • Continuously support the implementation of community projects


Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12
  • National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Forestry
  • B-Tech Degree (NQF Level 7) in forestry will be an added advantage
  • 5 years' experience as a Senior Silviculture/Harvesting Operations
  • 3 years' experience as a Plantation Manager in small plantation
