Senior Process Engineer: Paper (Grade.6/HRL17/S7)



Responsible for reviewing the end to end production process - from wood yard through to final product for all the types of products produced at the mill

REPORTING TO the Technical Manager


  • Define the standards for process documentation In collaboration with other Senior Process Engineers in head office and at other mills
  • Coordinate root cause analysis for recurring or systemic production failures and comprehensive de-bottlenecking exercises
  • Provide advice and expertise on the elements that should be considered
  • Review the quality of high level designs prepared by process engineers
  • Advise project and production managers on the criteria that drives the decisions to do pre-feasibility studies
  • Ensure that environmental standards are taken into account in all process designs
  • Critically evaluate the control elements in new designs from a cost effectiveness
  • Determine the process to be used and the extent of testing that needs to be done with new processes
  • Review the change impacts of the whole portfolio of process changes on at least a quarterly basis
  • Provide input to project managers on the robustness of their change management plans
  • Drive the recruitment, recognition, remuneration, development and discipline of the process engineering teams
  • Mentor new engineers and technicians in training and participate in the selection of new trainees

  • B.sc or B.Eng. Degree in Chemical Engineering or a B Tech in Chemical Engineering
  • 5 to 8 years process experience in a heavy manufacturing environment
  • Pulp and paper experience will be a high requirement
  • Post graduate qualification or certificate in management would be advantageous
